IRCC moves to new TEER system for NOC job classification

Paul Kelly

As announced in July 2022, today (November 16, 2022) IRCC is adopting the new TEER system for the NOC (National Occupation Classification) job classification system. This replaces the previous level (0, A, B, C and D) previously used.

Skill Type 0 => TEER 0

Skill level A => TEER 1

Skill level B => TEER 2 and TEER 3*

Skill Level C => TEER 4

Skill Level D => TEER 5

*skill level B is now effectively split into two different teers, teers 2 and 3.

The changes more than 100 IRCC programs, most notably the Express Entry system which relies heavily on the NOC to determine eligibility for candidates based on the 'skill' level of their employment.

IRCC have provided a detailed summary of the changes here https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/eligibility/find-national-occupation-code-2021.html and you search the new (2021) NOC here https://noc.esdc.gc.ca/ - be sure to select the correct version (2021).
